Private Water Supply

Here at Rise Irrigation, we can provide clients with a private water supply via a borehole or rainwater harvesting. In Norfolk and Suffolk, most premises are supplied with mains water from companies such as Anglian Water or Essex and Suffolk Water. A private water supply is where water has been extracted from the land, for example via a borehole or rainwater harvesting and connected to your home or irrigation system. Partially or fully diminishing the need to be connected to mains water. 

Rainwater harvesting is collecting, storing and using rainwater alongside of mains water. Rainwater falls onto a roof and is collected by guttering that will lead to a storage tank where it can then be used. The rainwater system can be filtered to your requirements. 

If you choose to have a borehole for your private water supply, we will use our own drilling rig via our drilling company, Foulger & Larter, to reach water. We pride ourselves in being one of the few companies to provide both irrigation and borehole services without the need to subcontract these services out. 

Following initial contact, we will do a survey on your location using a geological survey map which will give us information on the approximate number of meters we would need to drill to reach the aquafer. Drilling of the borehole may then commence, and once the desired meterage has been achieved, the borehole will be lined and flushed, which completes the first and second steps of the process. 

To note, you do not need a licence to abstract water unless you intend to use more than 20 cubic meters a day.

Step 4 – On results of water, filtration and pump are to be discussed to suit requirements and whether shed/manhole would like to be erected

 A sample of the water will be taken and send off for testing and following this we will supply and fit the filters and pump for your specific requirements. Depending on usage of water, we can supply filters for UK drinking standards and if intended use of water is for swimming ponds, for example, we can ensure high quality water with requirements of low-level nitrates. With every borehole the water will be tested whatever the intended use.
